Question 1

How long does it take for Flixonase to work?

Accepted Answer

You may feel some improvement within a day, but the full anti-inflammatory effect typically takes 3-4 days of regular use. For best results, use it daily as prescribed, even when you feel well, to prevent symptoms from returning.

Question 2

Can I use Flixonase for a blocked nose from a cold?

Accepted Answer

No. Flixonase is an anti-inflammatory for allergic rhinitis. It is not a decongestant and will not relieve congestion caused by viral infections like the common cold.

Question 3

Is Flixonase safe for long-term use?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when used at the recommended dose, it is considered safe for long-term management of perennial allergies. However, your doctor will recommend using the lowest effective dose and may monitor children's growth if used for extended periods.

Question 4

Can I use Flixonase if I'm pregnant?

Accepted Answer

Consult your doctor. The benefits need to be weighed against potential risks. Due to low systemic absorption, it is often considered a preferred option among nasal steroids, but medical advice is essential.

Question 5

Why do I keep getting nosebleeds with Flixonase?

Accepted Answer

Nosebleeds are a very common side effect. They are usually mild. To minimise risk, direct the spray away from the nasal septum (the central wall), ensure proper technique, and use a saline nasal spray to keep nostrils moist. If frequent or severe, consult your doctor.

Question 6

Can I drink alcohol while using Flixonase?

Accepted Answer

There is no known interaction between fluticasone propionate nasal spray and alcohol.

Question 7

What's the difference between Flixonase and a decongestant spray?

Accepted Answer

Decongestant sprays (e.g., oxymetazoline) work by constricting blood vessels for quick relief but can cause "rebound congestion" if used for more than 7 days. Flixonase treats the underlying inflammation, is safe for long-term use, and is the recommended first-line treatment for allergic rhinitis.

Question 8

Do I need to shake the bottle before use?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you should gently shake the bottle before each use. This ensures the suspension is uniform and you get the correct dose of medication.
