Question 1

Why does Otomize contain acetic acid alongside antibiotics?

Accepted Answer

Acetic acid creates an acidic environment that inhibits bacterial and fungal growth while enhancing neomycin's effectiveness. It also helps clear infections independently and prevents recurrence by making the ear canal less hospitable to pathogens.

Question 2

How quickly should I expect Otomize to start working?

Accepted Answer

Most people notice reduced pain and itching within 24-48 hours due to the anti-inflammatory action. Full antibacterial effects develop over 2-3 days, with complete resolution typically within 5-7 days when used as directed three times daily.

Question 3

Is it safe to use Otomize if I have a perforated eardrum?

Accepted Answer

No, Otomize is contraindicated with perforated eardrums or grommets. The neomycin component could potentially be absorbed into the inner ear, increasing ototoxicity risk. Always have your ears examined if perforation is suspected.

Question 4

Can bacteria become resistant to Otomize's antibiotic component?

Accepted Answer

While resistance to neomycin can develop, Otomize's combination approach makes this less likely. The acetic acid provides an additional antibacterial mechanism, and the anti-inflammatory component helps resolve infection faster, reducing resistance development opportunity.
