Question 1

How quickly does Estradot start relieving hot flushes?

Accepted Answer

Most women notice a reduction in hot flushes within 2‑4 weeks of starting treatment. Maximum benefit is usually seen after 8‑12 weeks of consistent use.

Question 2

Do I need to take a progestogen with Estradot if I still have my womb?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you have not had a hysterectomy, you must take a progestogen alongside Estradot to protect the endometrium from hyperplasia and cancer. Your doctor will prescribe a suitable progestogen.

Question 3

Can Estradot cause weight gain?

Accepted Answer

Some women may experience mild fluid retention initially, but significant weight gain is not common with transdermal oestrogen. Any persistent weight changes should be discussed with your doctor.

Question 4

What happens if I forget to change my patch on time?

Accepted Answer

Apply a new patch as soon as you remember, and then continue with your normal twice‑weekly schedule. Do not apply two patches to make up for the missed dose. If you are more than 2 days late, you may experience breakthrough bleeding or symptoms; contact your doctor if unsure.

Question 5

Is Estradot safe for long‑term use?

Accepted Answer

HRT is generally prescribed for the shortest duration needed to manage symptoms. The decision to continue long‑term should be reviewed annually with your GP, weighing the risks (breast cancer, stroke) against benefits (symptom relief, bone protection).
