Question 1

What should I do if I miss a dose of Utrogestan?

Accepted Answer

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two capsules to make up for a forgotten dose.

Question 2

Can I take Utrogestan if I have a peanut allergy?

Accepted Answer

No. Utrogestan contains soybean lecithin, which can cause allergic reactions in individuals allergic to peanuts or soya. Do not use and discuss alternative progestogens with your doctor.

Question 3

Why do I need to stop Utrogestan before surgery?

Accepted Answer

HRT increases the risk of blood clots, especially during periods of immobility. Stopping 4–6 weeks before elective surgery reduces this risk. Your doctor will advise when to restart afterwards.

Question 4

Can I take Utrogestan with food if I forget to take it at bedtime?

Accepted Answer

Ideally avoid taking with food because it increases absorption and may cause more drowsiness. If you missed your bedtime dose, take it as soon as you remember, even if with a light snack, but try to stick to the without‑food instruction for future doses.

Question 5

What should I expect in terms of bleeding when using Utrogestan cyclically?

Accepted Answer

You should have a withdrawal bleed within 2–7 days after finishing the 12-day course. If you have heavy, prolonged, or unexpected bleeding, or if bleeding continues after six months, see your doctor.
