Question 1

How long do the initial side effects of Utrogestan last?

Accepted Answer

Acute drowsiness and dizziness usually subside within 4‑12 hours after each dose. Breast tenderness and headaches often improve within the first 2‑4 weeks of continued use.

Question 2

Can Utrogestan cause weight gain?

Accepted Answer

Some women experience mild fluid retention or increased appetite, leading to a small weight change. Unlike synthetic progestins, natural progesterone is less likely to cause significant weight gain.

Question 3

What should I do if I get a rash while taking Utrogestan?

Accepted Answer

Mild rash may be a common side effect. If it is widespread, itchy, or accompanied by fever or swelling, stop the medicine and contact your doctor immediately as it may indicate an allergic reaction.

Question 4

Is it safe to take Utrogestan if I have a family history of blood clots?

Accepted Answer

A family history of blood clots increases your risk. Your doctor will assess your individual risk; you may still be able to use Utrogestan if no personal history of VTE, but close monitoring is essential.

Question 5

Can I drink alcohol while taking Utrogestan?

Accepted Answer

Alcohol can enhance the sedative effects of Utrogestan. It is best to avoid alcohol near the time of taking the capsule. If you drink, do so in moderation and be aware of increased drowsiness.
